What A Fresh Breath of Air! James Brown resides in Franklin, Indiana and wow what an inspiring story. Mr.Brown takes computers that individuals or companies trash and refurbishes systems and places them in the hands of children that would probably never have a personal computer. This addresses a number of issues for him; a more equal playing field for children in school, the total and safe deletion of information stored on systems to prevent identity or information theft, and a reduction of in-organics placed in land fills.
“Before you are misled and think this a totally self-sacrificing effort, let me be very frank. It makes me feel great to do this and I believe this is one of the many things I was equipped to do. An article in the Daily Journal (Franklin, Indiana’s Johnson County newspaper) has increased my throughput about 500% from the prior year and I am very thankful so many people are supporting this effort. I must emphasize one thing: I do not boot the machines at all. I remove the hard drives and place then into a cradle that runs a DOD erasure program on them. The data, all of your data, is overwritten with random binary code. It is totally and irrevocably erased. Please be certain nothing on the systems is of any value to you before donating them to me. This protects you, me, and the end-user and I do this on every system that comes to me through this program.” – James Brown
